BERGMANN WASTE COMPACTOR

A Bergmann waste compactor has been installed by Cardiff Port Authority, primarily to collect debris from Cardiff harbour, the majority of which is floating wooden debris. This debris is a major hazzard withing the enclosed harbour and has to be delt with in a timely and responsible manner.

Part of the answer is to transfer the debris to skips, prior to sorting and recycling. Skip capacity has been vastly increased by the use of a Bergmann packer roller, which ensures more efficient use of the skips.

Timely maintenance is important particularly on a machine with unpredictable usage patterns. The installation of a Lincoln autolube system addresses this issue by lubricating the machine automatically, in relation to the amount of time operating, rather than according to a fixed maintenance schedule. The machine is understandably well guarded and this makes lubrication points more difficult to access. The use of an automatic lubrication system overcomes this problem, by remotely connecting the lubrication points to the automatic lubrication pump - a further benefit of fitting auto lube.

A Lincoln 2-litre 203 Quicklub pump was chosen for simplicity, relaibility and ease of operation. The pump feeds a Lincoln 8-way SSV metering device, which feeds measured doses of lubricant to all the critical pivots on the machine. The system provides an economic automatic lubrication solution for a relatively low number of lubrication points.
