I have been agonising long and hard over this. I have not seen a commentator whose opinion I trust, or any informative impartial evidence and I guess that puts me in the vast majority.
Where does that leave us? At the mercy of the opinion makers who run our popular press, I guess? A depressing thought....
For me, Cameron blew his immediate opportuniity to put the issue to bed by failing, in the eyes of the British public, to renegotiate our current terms of membership.
My personal feeling is that we need to take a massively wider view on the subject and not get bogged down in the details of immigration, NHS, jobs, freedom of movement etc. Once we are out, we are out for good. Period (to use the American vernacular).
If we stay in (as the Scotts chose to do with the UK), we retain the opportunity to negotiate further reform from within, with the stick of potentially another reforendum to beat our European comerades with.
For the life of me, I cannot understand why Cameron has not taken this tack in his 'Remain' strategy. Probably because that would mean admitting failure at the renegotiation and admissions of any description are not things that potiticians are known for.
For me it is a case of evolution not revolition. I'm with wee Jimmy Cranky; I'm in. For now...
